Pelletiers Karate Academy

Women
There exists a huge void in our society when it comes to educating women on personal protection. There are many organizations willing to help after someone has been assaulted, but few resources to help women learn how to decrease the chances of being attacked. Every women and teen girl can become her very own bodyguard with the proper training and mindset.
Self protection training is only part of the answer we also need to educate men in the areas of sexual harassment, date rape, and domestic abuse. Stricter laws against, abusers, stalkers, and rapist also need to be developed and enforced. Our goal at Pelletier's Academy is to provide women with the mental and physical tools needed to avoid, or if necessary, survive a violent situation. We offer a variety of training options including, one half hour to one hour lunch time talks for businesses, two to six hour one day weekend sessions, and ongoing self defense classes year round. Please feel face to copy the safety tips listed below and pass them on to friends, family, and co-workers.

Safety in the home:

-Keep all doors and windows locked. Dead bold locks at least 1 1/2 inches in Length are best.

-If possible, invest in a central alarm.

-Trim trees and hedges so that they do not obscure your view.

-Report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.

-If you arrive at your home and you think that someone is inside do not enter. Call the police and stay away until they arrive.

-List your initials and last name in the phone book. Do not include your first name.

-Do not answer telephone surveys.

-Do not engage in conversations with prank callers. Report these calls to authorities.

-Do not allow strangers into your home. Call the police immediately if someone refuses to leave.

-Make sure that your yard it well lit.

-When going on vacation have a friend keep an eye on your home.

-When leaving work take advantage of work place security personnel to walk you to your car or walk with other people.

-Park your car in a well lit area and always lock your doors.

-Visually inspect the interior of your vehicle before getting in.

-Once in your vehicle, lock all doors. If your car breaks down, call for help on your cell phone. Do not accept help from strangers and do not get out of the vehicle until police arrive.

-Do not enter elevators with men you do not know unless there are other women present.

-Carry pepper spray in your hand when walking or running for exercise.

public restrooms-

-Be careful when using public restrooms, it is best to avoid them or enter with a friend.

Student Safety-

-If you feel that someone is following you, turn around and ask them. Many times this is enough to make the person think twice. Have your pepper spray ready and do not allow the person to get closer than two arms lenght away.
If you tell him to leave and he continues moving forward, spray him, run, and call the police once you reach a safe area.

-Remember to make plenty of noise as you are running.

-Clip knives can also be useful but only with proper training.

-Do not carry your purse with the strap around your neck.
